Weddings and funerals: whatever could go wrong?

Weddings and funerals are often high on emotion at different ends of the scale. And, no matter how hard and well you plan, things can – and will – go wrong. In this 2 hour session, you’ll get an idea of what can go wrong, how to prevent things going wrong in the first place, and how to come up with a solution in the time you’ve got. Some examples follow – and we will share others in the session.

  • the sound system fails
  • the cars are delayed by a half hour
  • there’s a car crash involving the wedding party
  • weather is inclement
  • the venue manager is ill and won’t be there on the day
  • the couple forgets their rings
  • the coordinator of the music is not able to attend
  • someone faints during the love story
  • and many more . . .

Funerals:
What would you do if

  • there’s a rogue speaker
  • the funeral begins late and will over-run its scheduled time slot
  • the family wants to take several hours to say goodbye at the graveside
  • you thought the candles were being supplied by the family but they‘ve forgotten them
  • you thought there’d be a side table on which to place items but there isn’t
  • there’s no space for flowers on the coffin

If a celebrant wants to conduct a stellar interview, then they have to prepare well in advance, make their couple feel at home and ask the right questions at the right time. They require the skills to conduct the couple’s interview in a way that feels natural and, more importantly, meets their objective of attaining a new ceremony booking.

A successful interview is built upon three basic components –

  1. INTERVIEW PREPARATION
  2. CONDUCTING THE INTERVIEW
  3. CONCLUDING THE INTERVIEW PROFESSIONALLY

At the end of this course participants should be able to

  • Confidently prepare for a couple’s initial enquiry and successfully make an appointment to meet with the couple
  • Prepare for the interview with potential couples
  • Conduct the interview and ask the right questions
  • Successfully conclude the interview with the objective of gaining a new ceremony booking.

At the end of the session, the trainer will email them to all of the participants.

After the session every participant (for example if there are 6 participants in the session) will receive 30 sample vows, 30 sample readings, 30 sample song ideas, 30 sample rituals and 6 sample ceremony scripts.

No doubt you have your own list of questions that you ask your couple, to draw out from them all the stories and information you need to create their personalised love story, tailored just to them, their relationship and their love for one another.

But when was the last time you reviewed your questionnaire? When was the last time you added in some new questions? Or took some not so good questions out?
You will also be challenged to think who else you can ask these questions of, to get their responses to add into the couples ceremony!

This session will push you to think outside of the box and create a list of questions that you can confidently ask your couples, to get the best out of them to create a ceremony they may have never thought was possible.
